Pressor and Positive Chronotropic Responses of Rabbits to Angiotensin
|

Abstract

1. Angiotensin (AT), in the whole anesthetized rabbits, produced the pressor responses but not the positive chronotropic ones. In the spinal rabbits AT produced the both responses.
2. The pressor effects of AT observed in the spinal rabbits diminished slightly after administration of bretylium and propranolol. Tl?e pressor effects were not influenced by reserpine pretreatment of the rabbits, and, after administration of chlorisondamine and regitine.
3. The positive chronotropic effects of AT observed in the spinal rabbits were not observed in the reserpine -pretreated spinal rabbits, and in the rabbits which received the injections of bretylium and propranolol. The chronotropic effects were not affected by adrenal ligation, administration of chiorisondamine and regitine.
4. Adrenal ligation in the spinal rabbits diminished the pressor response to AT, as well as that to norepinephrine. In the whole anesthetized rabbits the adrenal ligation did not modify the pressor effects of AT and norepinephrine,l
5. The above results indicate that AT produces the pressor effect by acting. directly on the vascular smooth muscle and that the chronotropid effect by stimulating norepinephrine release from the sympathetic nerve endings.
